The Lagos State governor Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu today was elected as the Lagos State APC flagbearer for the 2023 gubernatorial election in the state.

In the state’s APC primary election which took place in Lagos today at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, Onikan and which was interrupted by heavy downpour, Governor Sanwo-Olu emerged victorious as a result of the unanimous votes by delegates from the 20 local government council areas of the state.

In an election in which he is the incumbent Governor and the frontrunner, Governor Sanwo-Olu virtually coasted home to the victory in the absence of any challenger as other aspirants who were reported to have collected the party’s expression of interest and nomination forms were not cleared, having failed the screening process of the party.

At the end of the exercise which took place and had in attendance party members, delegates, INEC representatives, the media, security agencies, Governor Sanwo-Olu was returned virtually unopposed and declared the winner.

An elated Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu then went ahead to give an acceptance speech which is reproduced below.

I am grateful to God, the distinguished delegates and the leadership of the APC for the chance to continue the good work of governance that we have begun in our great state.

With this resounding victory in the primary election, I am confident that we are united and ready to continue to be a beacon of hope and service to this great state.

To the other contestants, I congratualte you for being a part of this very democratic process and invite you to join hands with me #ForAGreaterLagos
